UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #4

K2 class update - In UOI, the class has been exploring what makes them unique. This week, the students were looking at how their environment can impact who they are. They looked at the countries they are from and what food is popular in these countries.
Y2: Learning with number - lines During our Mathematics lessons, we've been learning about place value. It's a crucial concept that helps us understand how numbers work. To make it easier for our students, we've been using some useful tools and methods. We've been using number lines, which are like visual guides that show us where numbers sit in relation to each other. This helped the learners see the big picture when working with numbers.
Y4: Celebrations around the world - As a starting point into their new unit “Where we are in place and time” students looked at images from celebrations all over the world. They found questions, organised prior learning and looked at which events they felt needed to be added to our current study of how celebrations are recognised locally and globally.
Y6: Learning from our community - The Year 6 students were visited by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guest speaker from Udon Thani Rajabhat University, Mr. Nantawat (Harn) Phinitphrom. They explored the origins of beliefs in Thai culture, using Wai Kru flower garlands and Bai Sri trays as a stimulus to deepen their understanding. In addition, they discussed the influence of foreign cultures on Thai society, including adopting and adapting some international celebrations and traditions.
MY: Using scientific evidence - The MY students have been busy in the Science labs conducting various Chemistry and Physics investigations. They are learning to use scientific evidence to support conclusions and to evaluate the strengths and limitations of the experiments that they have conducted. Furthermore, they are connecting their findings to real-world applications such as rust prevention and biofuel production.

English at UDIS: Learning about diversity

Our EAL Learners created posters to show the diversity in our community. We used Google Earth to find out the location of the different countries where we are from. We also discussed the story “We Are All Different”. We talked about our similarities and differences and made connections to our UOI unit “Who We Are”.

School Board on 6 October - Our school board will be holding their first meeting of the year on Friday 6 October. The School Board oversees the funding and operations of the school. We have some new members this year and look forward to updating our community on these in our Week in Brief emails.
