UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #03

Preschool/K1:Building a ‘happy box’ - We have been great inquirers in Preschool/K1 learning about actions and feelings and how these affect our day to day lives. We have created our happy boxes to make connections between home and school. We will begin to sort out how we use these boxes to self regulate our emotions. Stay tuned!
Y1: Balanced lifestyles - Our class had a blast researching balanced lifestyles. We interviewed our Principal Ms. Emmi and Ms. Sara, to learn about how they balance taking care of their bodies, minds, and souls. This insightful experience has led us to delve deeper into exploring hobbies and lifestyles across different cultures, and we can't wait to see what we discover!
Y3: Houses around the world - Last week we looked at houses from countries around the world and discussed the materials used to build them. Most of us decided we would like to live in a log house in Switzerland!
Y5: Categorising animals - In our science classes the class has been investigating how different animals are grouped into different categories for identification purposes. We learned about how animals adapt to their surroundings to live in their habitat. The learners have discovered the way that plants reproduce and are enjoying creating dramatisations showing how flowers and insects interact to create new seeds.
MY: Start of the student council - Last week saw the first student council meeting where our industrious students organised themselves within the team by assigning roles followed by a brainstorming session on the needs at UDIS. In PSPE, Year 9/10 students explored the effects of social media on mental health and the reasons why we get addicted to social media. We then went on to discuss strategies on how to limit screen time in order to improve our mental health.

Student success: Euro in Y5

We have a champion Taekwondo competitor in our class. Well done to Euro who was competing in the E Sarn Premier League Taekwondo competition that took place in Khon Kaen on the 22 July 2023. He was awarded a Gold medal in the fighting category of 9-10 year olds, weight class 25-28 kilograms. Well done Euro and congratulations!

This week TAL learners in Year 2, were learning about their houses and identifying different features about their houses. They were very creative in coming up with their own ideal house.
