IPL Skin Rejuvenation

At Nue Clinic we use the award winning Excelight IPL system to treat a variety of skin complaints. The Excelight is a certified medical IPL device, delivering highly effective IPL treatments.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) skin rejuvenation, also known as IPL photofacial or IPL facial, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses broad-spectrum light to address various skin concerns and improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin. IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses the heat from light energy to target certain colours in the structures of the skin known as chromophores. These include melanin, haemoglobin, and water. The heat causes destruction of the targeted lesion, reducing the appearance or completely clearing it from the surface of the skin.  It can effectively target issues such as sun damage, age spots, redness, uneven pigmentation, and fine lines. Here’s how IPL skin rejuvenation typically works:

Consultation: The process begins with a consultation and test patch, which but be completed at least 72 hours prior to the full treatment. This will evaluate your skin condition, discuss your concerns and goals, and determine if you are a suitable candidate for IPL skin rejuvenation. Pre and post-treatment instructions will be given, such as avoiding sun exposure or certain skincare products.

Preparation: Before the procedure, the treatment area is usually cleansed, and cooling ultrasound gel is applied to enhance comfort and protect the skin’s surface.

Treatment: During the treatment, a handheld device emitting intense pulsed light is passed over the targeted area. The light energy is absorbed by the skin’s chromophores, such as melanin or hemoglobin, depending on the specific concern being addressed. This leads to a controlled heating effect in the targeted areas, stimulating collagen production and promoting skin rejuvenation.

Sensation: You may feel a mild snapping or stinging sensation during the treatment, similar to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. However, the discomfort is typically minimal and well-tolerated.

Sessions: IPL skin rejuvenation usually requires multiple treatment sessions, spaced several weeks apart. The exact number of sessions depends on various factors, including the specific concern being treated and the individuals skin condition. Each session helps to gradually improve the appearance of the skin.

Aftercare: After the treatment, you may experience some mild redness, similar to a sunburn, which usually subsides within a few hours or days. It’s important to follow any post-treatment instructions provided, such as avoiding sun exposure, using sunscreen, and practicing a proper skincare routine.

IPL skin rejuvenation can help improve the overall quality of the skin, reduce the appearance of pigmentation irregularities, and promote a more youthful and even complexion. However, it’s important to note that IPL may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain skin conditions or who are pregnant

SKIN REJUVENATION REVIEW

"I first had a course of IPL many years ago when I first started noticing the signs of ageing on my face, neck, and chest, and was so happy when I found Nue Clinic, which is local to me, offered this treatment. I came in for a consultation and test patch and explained to Babs my concerns with my skin. Now being a few years older, my skin was starting to look crepey and some age spots were also appearing. Babs suggested a course of IPL treatment on my face, neck, and chest, which would not only help plump the skin and soften the lines but would also help to lighten the pigmentation. My skin now feels baby soft and looks clearer and so much brighter. I’d suggest IPL to anyone."

FAQs

Does IPL Skin Rejuvenation Hurt?

Overall IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a comfortable process. It feels warm with a sensation of an elastic band snapping lightly over the skin. A cooling gel is always applied to the skin prior to the treatment to minimise discomfort.

What conditions can be treated with IPL?

IPL treats a variety of skin complaints including pigmentation due to ageing or sun damage, rosacea, thread veins, acne, uneven skin tone and texture, and fine lines and wrinkles.

Is IPL Skin Rejuvenation suitable for everyone?

IPL Skin Rejuvenation can treat many skin tones safely but may be unsuitable for darker skin colours depending on the skin complaint. A consultation and test patch are required before any IPL treatment is undertaken.

Can I continue my normal activities after IPL treatments?

Most activities can be resumed immediately after the treatment. Activities that involve increasing the body temperature, such as high-impact exercise, saunas, or swimming should be avoided for 24 hours, and exposure to the sun, sunbeds, or the use of artificial tanning products should be avoided before and after IPL treatments. Our therapists will discuss the pre- and post-care treatment guidelines with you at your consultation.

What is the difference between IPL and laser treatment?

IPL works in a similar way to laser treatment – however, IPL can treat a larger surface area.

Is IPL suitable for sensitive skin?

One of the many benefits of IPL treatment is that it helps to reduce the sensitivity of your skin. You will receive a full consultation beforehand with an expert practitioner to answer any questions you may have and determine what treatments are suitable for you.

Can I get IPL anywhere on my body?

IPL is suitable for most areas of the body such as the face, chest, and hands. Typically, however, IPL isn’t as effective on uneven areas of skin and isn’t recommended for people who have thick keloid scarring.
